Allahabad

Allahabad attracts students and learners from all over country. Allahabad has one central university, three deemed universities, research and technical institutions and colleges known for providing higher education in vast range of disciplines. Few of the reputed ones can be listed as following.

Allahabad University founded in 1887 is the fourth oldest university of India, is granted Central University status.
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) Allahabad, a deemed university, one of the twenty National Institutes of Technology and an Institute of National Importance of India.
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A), ranked among the top 10 engineering schools in India.[11] This institute also conferred the Deemed University status by government of India.
Allahabad Agricultural Institute a deemed university, is the oldest such institute in South Asia.
Harish-Chandra Research Institute is an institute funded by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, dedicated to research in Mathematics and Physics.
Motilal Nehru Medical College.
Birla Institute of Technology Allahabad is an extension center of Birla Institute of Technology Ranchi a premier engineering college of India which was ranked at tenth place by India Today magazine among best engineering institutions of India.[12][13]
Ewing Christian College founded in 1902 is the only Autonomous Minority Co-Educational College of the Allahabad University. The College was established by The American Presbyterians visiting India on Christian Mission. The Church of North India is the main controlling body, and the Bishop of the Lucknow Diocese stands the grand Chairman on the College. The campus is beautifully situated along the Yamuna River as a symbol of the grandeur of this historic city.
Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology (IERT) Allahabad, was established to provide diploma courses in various engineering disciplines, now offers degree courses also from Uttar Pradesh Technical University.
Shambhunath Institute of Engineering and Technology (SIET) Allahabad, was established in 2004 to provide B.TECH courses in various engineering disciplines, now offers MBA and B.PHARMA also from Uttar Pradesh Technical University.
There are many government aided and private schools and colleges in Allahabad which are affiliated with either the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), or the UP Board of High School and Intermediate Education. Allahabad is one of the regional divisions of CBSE and head office of UP Board of High School and Intermediate Education. English is the medium of instructions in most private schools while government aided schools and colleges offer both Hindi and English medium education. Bishop Johnson School & College, St Joseph's College, Boys' High School and College, Maharshi Patanjali Vidya Mandir, St Mary's Convent School, Girls' High School, Government Intermediate College and Colonelganj Intermediate College are some of the reputed schools in city.

To cater needs of vocational, technical and professional education in rural areas of Allahabad and nearby districts, the Ministry of HRD, Government of India has recently started another university named Nehru Gram Bharti Vishwavidyalaya at Dubawal village of Allahabad. The university currently offers academic programs at graduate and post graduate levels in various disciplines including Arts, Commerce, Science, Education(as subject), Law, Management, Rural Development, Master of Social Works, Computer Applications, Journalism etc

Varanasi

University education

Varanasi is the site of three public universities. Banaras Hindu University, which includes Institute of Technology and Institute of Medical Sciences , is among the top largest residential universities in the world having more than 128 independent teaching departments.[42]Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth and Sampurnanand Sanskrit University are the other two universities.

Banaras Hindu University (1916) was founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya with the cooperation of Dr Annie Besant. Its 1350 acre (5.5 km²) campus was built on land donated by the Kashi Naresh.

Governor General Lord Cornwallis establish the Sanskrit College (1791), which was the first college in Varanasi. The first principal of Sanskrit College was Sanskrit Professor J. Myor, ICS followed by Dr. J.R. Ballentien, RTH Griffith, Dr. G. Thevo, Dr. Aurthor Venice, Dr. Ganganath Jha, and Gopinath Kaviraj among others. After independence this college became Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.

TheCentral Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies(Central University of Tibetan Studies)at Sarnath is a deemed university with a preference for the traditional Tibetan method of teaching within a framework of modern universities.[44]Udai Pratap College, autonomous college, is the center of sports and science study for the suburban students of modern Benares.Agrasen Mahila Mahavidyala is another autonomous college in the city.Varanasi is also noted for many private and public institutes that provide Hindu religious teaching. Since ancient times people have been coming to Varanasi to learn philosophy, Sanskrit, astrology, social science and religious teachings. In Indian tradition, Varanasi is often called "Sarva Vidya Ki Rajdhani" (capital of knowledge). The city also has the Jamiah Salafiah, a Salafi Islamic institution.

The schools are affiliated with the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), or the U. P. Board. Under the 10+2 plan, after completing their secondary education, students typically enroll in a 2 year junior college (also known as a pre-university) or in schools with a higher secondary facility. Students usually choose from one of three streams — liberal arts, commerce, or science, though vocational streams are also available. Upon completing the required coursework, students may enroll in general or professional degree programs. Health facilities From Bihar and eastern UP people come to BHU medical collage for treatment, 80% medical facilities are provided by private sectors.

Purvanchal University

Purvanchal University (renamed as Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in the honour of late Shri Veer Bahadur Singh, former Chief Minister of the state) Jaunpur was established on 2nd October 1987 as an affiliating university under U.P. state university act 1973. Continuous qualitative and quantitative growth, excellence in academic and administrative activities and transparent and efficient academic administration have been some of the distinct characteristics on the basis of which lthe university emerged as one of the leading universities of the country. Started with the 68 affiliated colleges, the university now has widened it’s spectrum of activities with 331 affiliated graduate and post-graduate colleges and students enrollment of nearly three hundred and eighty thousand in 12 Districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
